All About Us
FIESTA CHORUS is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International® dedicated to performing four-part a cappella harmony. This chorus of 40 women was chartered in 1992, performing regularly around the entire Phoenix Valley at civic event, social, and charitable functions. Our singers include business executives, homemakers, teachers and nurses all joining to rehearse and present quality family entertainment.

FIESTA CHORUS boasts of Regional honors earned at Competitions held every Spring. Our Region includes Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and the Western Tip of Texas. We also competed in the International Education Symposium in Charlottesville, North Carolina, in the summer of 2004 where we were pleased to win 5th place honors on that International stage.

We take pride in our ability to perform and entertain with a focus on vocal production and showmanship. Our musical repertoire includes everything from the patriotic to show tunes to holiday selections.

Our enthusiastic and knowledgeable Director, Anita Barzilla, has been involved and practiced in the barbershop style for the past 26 years. She has a background in music performance and theater and willingly shares her experience to the delight of her chorus and audiences alike.

Director Anita Barzilla
ImageOpportunity was knocking when Fiesta and Anita Barzilla found each other! Fiesta's founding director of 16 years suddenly left the chorus in September 2007.  The same night, Anita wrote to us expressing her interest in directing the chorus. Only 3 months before, Anita had moved back to Arizona from Washington where she was Associate Director of the Pacific Sound Chorus in Bellevue.

When we read her credentials, it seemed that we had been saved by the fates that had brought us both to this point.  She is a 26 year veteran of Sweet Adelines. But even more importantly, she is a lifetime musician who has studied piano since age 5, played violin and viola from age 12, won a scholarship to Southwestern University with a major in viola and minors in piano and voice, she arranges barbershop music, directs...and on and on!

During her 26 years with Sweet Adelines, she has sung and competed in all four voice parts, won international with the Scottsdale Chorus, sung in 3 major internationally renowned choruses, directed several choruses in Arizona and Texas (including a men's chorus in Houston), assembled and directed a YWIH ensemble, taught voice lessons and helped countless members to find their true voice in our organization.

Among the many honors both regionally and internationally achieved by Anita, her most recent is Certified Arranger in the International Music Arrangers Program. This is an honor which she cherishes. She feels fortunate in having Nancy Bergman as her mentor in the IMAP scholarship program and attributes her success to Nancy's fine tutelage. Along the way to achieving this honor, she was also awarded Certified Director status, which is another fine achievement she values.

As you can see, we had no trouble selecting this candidate as Director of the Fiesta Chorus. In our first six months together, we performed in the community nine times and competed in our first annual regional competition. There are many opportunities being afforded to our members with Anita's guidance. We just can't wait to see what is coming next!
